Dr. Yang Training Tip: Counterintuitive Wisdom for Building Speed and Power through Stillness and Slow Movement

Slow is Fast

One wisdom from Chinese Martial Arts for developing speed and power is through stillness and slow movement. You will not know the miracle of moving without mastering stillness. This nurturing approach leads to longevity of power and speed with minimum injuries.

In stillness, you can enhance body awareness which leads to improved body alignment, footwork and foot positioning, mind and body connection, reaction time and relaxation. In slow movement, these can be further consolidated and improved in motion. This makes faster and more powerful movement possible with minimum chance of injuries.

Remember, slow is fast, relaxed is strong.  With still and slow practice and when we take the time to be careful and well prepared, we can develop longevity of power and speed.
